Training Weekend with 2008 Radial Olympian Ciara Peelo

Irish Laser Class Association Training weekend for female sailors with 2008 Radial Olympian Ciara Peelo

24th & 25th March at the Royal St George Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire

The Irish Laser Class Association is very keen to encourage and promote female participation.  This weekend will look to improve and encourage all our 4.7 and Radial girls up and down the country, from all four provinces.  In addition, we are aware of a strong pick-up in the numbers of older female sailors coming into (or often back into) Laser sailing.  If there is sufficient demand, a second “stream” of these sailors will train alongside the main group with a second coach.  Regarding our current racers, we want to see everybody from our ISA Academy Radial sailors to brand new recruits coming in from Toppers and Optimists.

We are delighted to announce that Ciara Peelo will be the Head Coach. Ciara represented Ireland at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, where she was also the flagbearer for the entire Irish Olympic team.  Ciara also won an ISAF Youth Worlds bronze medal, Ireland’s only ever female medal winning performance at this event.  Perhaps amongst our group on March 24/25 there is another medal winner in the making!.  Interestingly, Ciara sailed at the lower end of the weight spectrum (towards 60 kgs) so her advice and tips will be invaluable for lighter sailors.

Cost will be split evenly between sailors and the Irish Laser Class Association with exact price to depend on demand, but it should be quite nominal.  If you are interested in taking part in this unique training weekend (a week before the Munsters in Baltimore!) please email the Sean Craig, Class Training Officer to book a place  scraig@fideuramireland.ie
